Hi Manuel,
As a start, I think Jabaco is really a great project for people that are moving away from VB6 applications and trying to port the code to a multi platform application.
From a perspective of someone who has been monitoring the development from time to time to see if enough progress has been made so it would be usable for production work, I see the following issues:
- Features like ADODB and RS porting (which any decent business application must have) need to be implemented (At least basic functionality even though the community has created a lot of example to implement similar features through Java).
- The product does not as of yet carry professional support (even though several of the members of this site attend very well to new members queries).
- VB6 is a dying language whether we like it or not and very few developers graduating within the last 5 years know about it (All that I have interviewed are either involved with Java, .Net, PHP, Rail, ...etc).
- The market does have competing products like realbasic that is well supported.
- The idea of continually developing new applications under VB6 is not a good business decision for any one to make.
Why am I saying all this? I think you are a very capable person but need some help in order to accelerate production and be able to pick up what ever time frame the window of opportunity might still carry for your product.
If you are looking at this product as a system that could mature into a development platform or a conversion tool, may I suggest that you think about involving others who also believe in this project (that might be willing to volunteer their time) and speed up the production and releases. This might make sense if this project is intended for commercial benefits. Having a bigger team, will probably allow for faster releases (like every 2 month)
I would hate to see such a product go down due to ...
I don't mean to be pessimistic but I have added my 2 cents for caring ...
Wishing u all the best and hope to see this project flourish.
